On Saturday, 2nd August 2025, join Kenya’s boldest trailblazers in the wild terrain of Mau Narok starting from the little farmers village of Maiella, Naivasha for the most exhilarating trail challenge of the year, the Mountain Madness Ultra (MMU). This is also Kenya’s first UTMB Index race with the routes going through both Narok and Nakuru counties. It’s steep, it’s scenic, and it’s not for the faint of heart.

14KM Madness Lite

A fun yet demanding adventure for casual runners, groups, and thrill-seekers. 400m elevation gain and plenty of scenery to soak in.

24KM Half Madness

A significant rise to the upper ridges with a scenic descent that sits somewhere between a point of sweet endorphins and pain. Great for the not too sure hill challengers! Elevation likely around 800m.

34KM Madness

Half the distance, none of the mercy. 1200m elevation gain through ridges, forests, and meadows. Fast, brutal, and beautiful.

60KM Ultra Trail

The beast. 2,200m elevation gain, technical ridges, steep ascents, and real mountain grit. Headlamps mandatory. Madness guaranteed.

Race Location: Mau Ranges

The Mountain Madness Ultra takes place in the rugged highlands of Maiella, Naivasha, on the edge of the vast Mau Forest. This remote region sits at an altitude of 2,000–2,700 meters, offering a mix of rocky ridges, rolling hills, forest trails, and open meadows— ideal for a true mountain trail challenge. Just past Lake Naivasha’s South Lake Road, runners are greeted by misty mornings, crisp mountain air, and sweeping views across the Rift Valley. Expect technical terrain, natural river crossings, and the occasional cheer from local villagers and wildlife. Raw, remote, and breathtaking—this is where the madness begins.

If you wish to sleep closer to the start line consider the camps near Lake oloiden . Alternatively, you may camp at the school on Friday but be aware that we only have toilets not showers available on site. Arrive Friday.

Driving From Nairobi?

Take Note

The last 20km to Maiella is rough road recently graded though so we expect you all to be able to get to the start in time. However, leave Nairobi by 4am to make it to the starting point in time.
