Entering rocky desert land with sharp sun exposure; expansive vistas and dusty trails; limited vegetation.
20 – 25
Approaching Lake Magadi basin; terrain becomes saltier and firmer underfoot; visual of the pink lake and mirage-like conditions.
25 – 30
Along Lake Magadi’s rim; hot, flat, salt-encrusted surface; reflection heat intensifies. Aid station likely near here.
30 – 42
Head toward Magadi Airstrip (checkpoint cut-off at 10:30 hrs); dry flat road with possible vehicle access; wide jeep track.
42 – 50
Post-airstrip: Enter hot springs road; slight elevation; geothermal heat adds to fatigue. Sparse, bushy terrain resumes.
50 – 60
Traversing semi-desert bushland: rocky patches, thorny vegetation; dehydration risk high—mental toughness zone.

Turning north back toward Nguruman edge: wind-blown terrain, dry streambeds, camel herder paths.
